#diskursiv: QUEER VOICES FROM UKRAINE
Screening with artist Jan Bačynsjkyj and Presentation of the Queer.War.Archive.

On Wednesday June 19, at 19:00 in p.m.k. we will screen the short film Tovarystvo Sekta (2020) by Ukrainian artist Jan Bačynsjkyj which tells the story of a group of queer friends who experience auditory hallucinations containing messages from the future, in which a queer utopia has arrived. The screening will be followed by an online presentation of the Queer.War.Archive. Co-founded by Jan Bačynsjkyj in 2024, the project meticulously documents the experiences of Ukraine's queer community during the war, encompassing personal stories, art projects, critical writing, and a directory of supporting initiatives. The archive serves as an amplifier for the voice of Ukrainian queers amidst Russian colonial agression, Ukrainian biopolitics, and imperialistic discourses.

Yana Bachynska aka Jan Bačynsjkyj (he/him), born 1991 in Lviv, is a Ukrainian visual artist, curator, and film director whose practice focuses on queering grand narratives. He uses the method of induction, which means going from individual experience to reach the collective one, trying to achieve wholeness within contradictions. He graduated in philosophy from the National University of Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv (2013) and in multimedia at the Academy of Art in Szczecin (2019). He is the co-founder of Queer.War.Archive (2024) and Art Platform (2013), through which he actively participated in preventing gentrification processes by creating a non-governmental cultural center.
