JOZEF VAN WISSEM

I Make All Things New!“.

Jozef Van Wissem is an avant-garde composer and lutenist playing his all black, one-of-a-kind custom-made baroque lute all around the world. In the 1990s he studied the lute in New York with Patrick O’Brien. The titles and the nature of his work often have a Christian-mystical appeal and the music he creates is simply timeless.

In 2013 Van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award at the Cannes Film Festival for Jim Jarmuschs „Only Lovers Left Alive“. In December 2017 Van Wissem was invited to play at the Hermitage Museum in St.Petersburg to perform the madrigal depicted in Caravaggios „The Lute Player“ (1596) which is on display at the same place.

In 2022 Van Wissem presented his 20th solo album „Behold! I Make All Things New!“. The album is completly instrumental and consits of electronic works and lute sound.

We are proud to welcome Mr. Van Wissem for this third visit in Innsbruck at this very special location.
