Bukkha. Having taken up guitar and bass from the age of 11, he showed a strong passion and adeptness for music from an early aged. Drawing on a wide range of influences from the likes of Scientist, Luke Vibert, Madlib & Billie Holiday, it was only a matter of time before he tried his hand at production. Within a year of beginning to program his own take on deep and dubbed-out dubstep, his tune “Under” was signed to the UK-based label Dubbed Out, which saw a subsequent vinyl release in 2009, featuring a Radikal Guru remix on the flip side. Following his debut, he had the honor of remixing some of the scene’s heavyweights, including Roommate, Radikal Guru, and Tuff & Powa, among others. Over the next few years, Bukkha became a staple of the Gulf Coast’s dub & bass music scene, where he honed his skills as a DJ and gained a strong reputation for his energetic sets. Fast-forward to 2016, when Bukkha decided to make the move across the pond to Valladolid, Spain, where he got right down to business, spending much of the next three years in the studio. During this time, he released three heavyweight EPs on the well-known Moonshine Recordings—including “Ruling Sound” with Junior Dread—as well as four EPs on the US-based Dub-Stuy Records, including “Guns N Fiyah” with Junior Dread and his 2017 anthem “Death Chat” with Killa P, which still receives heavy rotation from some of the scene’s biggest names. In addition, Bukkha has released quality tracks on esteemed labels such as Five Alley, Innamind, and System. In recent years, his music has received regular support from major artists across the bass music scene—from deep dubstep icons like Mala, J:Kenzo, and N-Type, to legends of the international sound system circuit such as Channel One Sound System (UK), King Shiloh (Netherlands), and Dub-Stuy (Brooklyn, NY). 2019 began on a high note for Bukkha, with his debut EP on the infamous Lion Charge Records receiving a vinyl release. Bukkha toured extensively in the US, Mexico, UK, and EU. In 2021, he released his first LP titled “…In Roots Vol. 1” on Moonshine Recordings (September release). With this album, he delivers sound system music in a classic roots dub style, infused with a solid dose of steppers. Featuring many talented guests, the record pays tribute to the pioneers of the genre while firmly representing the distinctive musical style Bukkha has developed over his career. In 2024 along with two successful US tours and many dates around the EU/UK, a massive debut EP on Redeyes’ imprint Five Alley, and a follow-up dubplate release on INNAMIND, Bukkha launched his own labels, BUKKHA and Unfold. BUKKHA is more centered around the future sounds/styles of dub. The first three releases feature the French dub producer, Mysticwood, on the anolog mixing and dubbing duties. Furthermore, each release has featured some of the biggest vocalis/mc’s from both the dub and bass scene. Unfold focuses on pushing the sound forward with a more experimental touch. Listeners will find everything from Dub Techno to spaced out Drum n’ bass, and everything in between. In 2025, Bukkha returned to the studio and released his third vinyl on his imprint. The first 12» featured grime legend Footsie, dub all-star trumpet player Aba Ariginal, and a next-level remix by none other than Mysticwood. The release has received much support from some of the biggest names in the dub scene such as, King Original, Dubkasm, and OBF. This year, Bukkha also teamed up with Ites Vibration, a rising vocalist from Brighton, EN. Together they launched the forward-thinking roots label, Higher. They released their debut self-titled single «Higher,» which received much support and high praise in Riddim Magazine.
